Harry's Trails Around The World

Harry Travels World

Croatia - Zagreb and surroundings

First visit (whole country): March 1997 Subsequent visits: July 1999, March 2001, July 2002, April 2003, July 2003, September 2003, June/July 2005, January 2008, February 2008, April 2009, May/June 2009. Visited (in this album): Zagreb, Varazdin, Cakovec, Slunj, Plitvice, Samobor. Admittedly a lovely country on the whole, the region covered here is influenced heavily by Austro-Hungarian architecture. Zagreb is small but the old town most winning and the Plitvice Lakes are one of the wonders of the world which I would say are a must! The problem being, a nationalistic and somehow stuffy atmosphere that permeates every pore of the place. Highlight: Plitvice and 'Ivica and Marica' coffee shop in Zagreb.
