Harry's Trails Around The World

Harry Travels World

Cuba

First visit: January 2002 Subsequent visit: February 2004 Visited: Havana, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Santa Clara, Santiago de Cuba, Holguin. Cuba is unique, and that makes it a must. The aura of Fidel and especially Che Guevara are everywhere and in many ways the poverty is surpassed by the openness of the people, the relaxed atmosphere, the music and the undeniable colonial grandeur. Havana is a mix of terrible and romantic, the countryside depresses when you see people waiting for hours for transport, or children whose glee at getting crayons make you realise that the place is destitute. But in the end, you will probably leave with a smile on your face. Highlight: Hard to pick something, the whole environment is so engrossing. Ranking: Just missed a Top 50 spot, 53/217.
