Jordan
First visit: September/October 2002
Subsequent visits: August 2006, January 2007, November 2007, November 2010, October 2012.
Visited: Amman, Aqaba, Petra, Jerash, Dead Sea.
Jordan is perhaps Arabia light, in that the foreign approach is evident in some parts, the upper class is clearly western-oriented and the place is both relatively safe and easy to navigate around. Amman's old areas are a throwback to the middle age though. The scenery is rather barren and the Dead Sea rises from it all like an oasis.
Highlight: Definately the Kempinski on the Dead Sea (see links section) which is one of my favourite hotels.
