First visit: March 1998
Subsequent visit: October 2009.
Places visited: Buenos Aires, Cordoba, La Plata, Carlos Paz, Alta Gracia, Puerto Iguazu.
Of all the places I have travelled to, it was Buenos Aires that most reminded me of my native Athens back in 1998. 11 years later, I no longer had that impression but the country did manage to charm me magnificently. The people are exceptionally friendly, there is an odd mix of liberalism and Catholic tradition, quaint villages in the sierras to die for and a vibrant capital, somewhat grotty, but surely a metropolis. A country certainly worth exploring further and in much detail.
Highlight: For me, Alta Gracia, a small town in the Sierras, home to some wonderful villas, true peace and quiet, and the place where Che Guevarra grew up.
