Harry's Trails Around The World

Romania - Bucharest and Littoral

First visit: March 2000 Subsequent visits: March 2001, July 2002, April 2003, May 2003, December 2003 (twice), January 2004, July 2005, July 2006, September/October 2007, November 2007, September 2008, April 2009, May 2010, March 2012, September 2012. Visited (this page): Bucharest If I were scoring the capital alone, Romania would probably not even make it into the Top 100. A town built neither on the sea, nor by a river, ruined by bad planning and without a clear centre, Bucharest is certainly not a first choice and could be avoided altogether. Granted, the parks are nice, and the largest building in Europe, the Palace of the People built by Ceaucescu is obviously worth a look. Highlight: Herastrau park, an oasis in the urban mess and also featuring a lovely museum of the different ethnic areas of the country. Rank (whole country): 18/217.
