Visited (in this page): Nis, Niska Banja, Leskovac, Prohor Pcinjski. Impoverished southern Serbia was for years my refuge from the ills of the world and I would always say with that Nis was my favourite place without any doubts. Recently, a damper has been put on all that, but still, southern Serbia retains an authentic feel that the north is losing, and what some may call poverty or lack of civilisation, others can construe as warmth and kindness. Highlight: Many happy days in Nis, from Kalca to the Splav and even the slightly downtrodden market. Rank: 3/217.
