Places visited: Tirana, Korce, Gjirokaster, Durres, Voskopoje.
Albania is often considered as the least developed European country, and with good reason sometimes, but that is exactly where the charm lies. The countryside is truly a throwback to an era long gone, while the capital Tirana has lots of pep and character, exudes a friendliness and openness that will surprise you, and is a nice mix of old tradition and modernity without being insulting. The people, by the way, are truly super. Let's hope this lasts.
Highlight: The old town of Gjirokaster, nicely done up and a true gem to walk about.
