First (only) visit: September 2004
Visited: Ulan Bator
Fascinatingly different, this place combines a nomadic tradition, communist symbolism, an effort to become capitalism, an innocence not to be found elsewhere, while the capital is actually quite a jazzy place, including ads of watches featuring Audrey Hepburn of a very chic French restaurant. Certainly worth a visit for its vastness and do make sure you take the bus to the communist memorial, which will have you pass the university, where happy students will make your day.
Highlight: The mix of communist mosaics and Budhist-like temples.
